// How We Build

The Custom Firearm Build Process

Every firearm that leaves the Defiance Tactical workshop is built one at a time, by hand, to a standard that production-line manufacturers cannot match. Whether you are commissioning a sub-MOA precision rifle, a duty-grade AR platform, or a one-off special-purpose build, the process behind it is the same: deliberate, documented, and verified at every step. This page breaks down how a custom build moves from the first conversation to final delivery so you know exactly what you are paying for - and why it takes the time it takes.

01

Consultation & Requirements Definition

Every project starts with a direct conversation about how and where the firearm will be used. We discuss your intended application, budget, timeline, and any legal considerations for your state of residence. For precision rifles that means talking about engagement distances and target types; for AR platforms it means use case, duty, competition, or suppressor host; for special-purpose builds it means the specific mission the gun has to solve. The output of this stage is a written build spec that both sides agree on before any components are ordered.

02

Component Selection & Sourcing

With the build spec locked, we source the action, barrel, trigger, chassis or stock, and every small part that goes into the rifle. We work directly with premium manufacturers and distributors we trust, so the components in your build are ones we would run ourselves. If you already own parts you want incorporated, a specific action, optic, or trigger, we are happy to build around customer-supplied components as long as they meet our quality standard.

03

Blueprinting, Fitting & Machining

This is where a custom build separates itself from an assembly-line gun. Bolt-action actions are blueprinted and trued so that bolt lugs seat squarely and the bore aligns with the action centerline. Match-grade barrels are chambered and headspaced to the specific action, not a generic spec. Triggers are installed and tuned to a clean, predictable break. AR platforms get gas-system tuning, free-float handguard installation, and enhanced trigger groups. Every measurement is verified with calibrated tools, not guessed.

04

Assembly, Test-Fire & Accuracy Verification

Once fit-up is complete, the firearm is fully assembled and test-fired. Precision rifles are accuracy-verified, we confirm the rifle will hold the groups we promised before it leaves the shop. AR builds are function-tested for reliable cycling. If something does not perform, it goes back to the bench. We do not ship a build we would not shoot ourselves.

05

Finishing, Documentation & FFL Transfer

Finishing, Cerakote, custom patterns, or a clean matte black, is applied after mechanical work is done, never before. Every build is documented, and a workmanship warranty covers our assembly and labor. As a federally licensed firearms dealer, we handle transfer in full compliance with ATF regulations: completed builds ship to your local FFL, or you pick up in person if you are local. We walk you through the paperwork.
